Abstract

This article explores the theoretical foundations, development, and classification of meronymy and holonymy as essential semantic relations in linguistics. The study examines various types of part-whole relationships, their semantic-structural features, and their role within the linguistic system. It also analyzes the evolution of meronymic and holonymic units in the lexical-semantic framework, highlighting their categories and interconnections through illustrative examples. The paper proposes theoretical insights and classification approaches that contribute to a deeper understanding of part-whole relations in language.
