Abstract

This article examines the legal and practical potential of public oversight in preventing corruption. It substantiates that the effectiveness of public oversight depends not only on citizens’ active participation but also on the accessibility of information about the activities of public authorities, the substantive consideration of citizens’ appeals, the implementation of appropriate measures in response to identified problems, and the subsequent monitoring of results. The scientific novelty of the study lies in conceptualizing public oversight as an integrated mechanism comprising access to information, public analysis, appeals to competent authorities, the implementation of appropriate measures, and subsequent verification of results. The article also proposes interrelated criteria for assessing the effectiveness of public oversight. Finally, legal and organizational recommendations are developed to make public oversight more results-oriented.
