Abstract

Fibrogenesis plays a decisive role in the development of liver cirrhosis, with transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1) being one of the key pathogenetic mediators. It is involved in the activation of hepatic stellate cells, increased synthesis of extracellular matrix components, particularly collagen, the formation of fibrotic tissue, and disruption of the architectural structure of the liver parenchyma.
