Abstract
The article examines the problem of presenting national culture in a static and one-sided way in English language classes. The author calls this situation the «souvenir trap». Within it, Uzbekistan is presented only through monuments, national dishes and holidays. As a result, students cannot speak about the present-day image of their country. The article proposes a three-stage methodology for overcoming this problem. The methodology rests on project-based learning and the principles of intercultural mediation. A five-criterion assessment sheet is provided.
