Abstract

This article analyzes, for the first time, the stages of the emergence of works of the “Tarikh al-Anbiya” (Stories of the Prophets) type. It examines the key phases that contributed to the formation of this genre in Arabic literature, including the Qur’anic stage (brief narratives about prophets), the narrative stage (oral traditions and Isra’iliyyat), the exegetical stage (expansion by commentators), the historical stage (activities of historians such as Al-Tabari), and the literary stage (works of authors such as Al-Kisai and Chalabi).
