Abstract

This article analyzes the formation process of textbooks for new-method (usul-i jadid) schools, which was one of the most crucial directions of the Jadid movement in Turkestan at the beginning of the 20th century, from a source-study perspective. In the research, textbooks on the alphabet, native language, history, geography, and ethics created by Jadid enlighteners such as Mahmudkhodja Behbudiy, Munavvarkari Abdurashidkhanov, Abdulla Avloni are examined as primary historical sources. The author reveals the publishing history of the textbooks, their structural features, ideological and content characteristics, as well as the influence of the socio-political environment of that period on the content of educational literature. The article provides a source-study classification of Jadid textbooks and scientifically substantiates their historical role in the national awakening and reform of the education system.
