Abstract

This paper proposes a methodological framework for assessing environmental changes around waste landfills using remote sensing and GIS. It describes the preparation of Sentinel-2 spectral indices and Landsat 8/9 land surface temperature data, delineation of buffer rings, and selection of comparable control areas. The workflow accounts for background temporal variability and specifies indicator standardisation, AHP consistency checks, and sensitivity analysis. A composite environmental change index is proposed to prioritise field monitoring. This is a methodological study; imagery for a specific landfill has not been processed, and the predictive performance of the index has not yet been validated.
