Abstract
In this article, the authors analyze the history of the construction, architectural and planning structure, decorative art, and role in the political and cultural life during the reign of Allaqukhan of the Tosh-Hovli Palace, one of the major examples of Khorezm architecture of the 19th century. The Tosh-Hovli Palace was built in Khiva during the reign of Khiva Khan Allaqukhan in 1830–1838 and is considered one of the major construction projects that shaped the architectural appearance of the city of Khiva. The palace’s harem, reception hall, and petition hall reflect various functional aspects of palace life in the khanate. The study examines the use of fired brick in the construction of the Tosh-Hovli Palace, its high defensive walls, iwans, wood carving, marble columns, and tile decorations as distinctive features of the Khorezm architectural school. The article also highlights the significance of the palace today as a cultural heritage site within the Ichan-Kala historical and architectural complex.
