EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL MIGRATION OF THE POPULATION IN THE BORDER DISTRICTS OF SURKHONDARYO REGION: CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES

Abstract

This article analyzes the formation of population migration in the border areas of Surkhandaryo Region, its main causes, and its socio-economic consequences. The fact that Surkhandaryo Region borders Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Afghanistan is one of the important geographical factors influencing the active participation of the region’s population in external migration processes. In particular, the presence of territorial and social ties with neighboring countries in Sariosiyo, Uzun, and Denov districts shapes the specific characteristics of migration processes. The article examines external labor migration, internal migration, the search for employment and income, education, family factors, interregional economic disparities, and infrastructure-related causes. It also considers the impact of migration on employment, family relations, demographic structure, labor resources, and the socio-economic development of the regions. The article concludes with proposals for regulating migration processes in border districts and making effective use of migration for regional development.
