Abstract

This article explores the nature and importance of academic reading comprehension in English language education. The study examines how reading comprehension contributes to learners’ academic achievement, critical thinking development, vocabulary expansion, and overall language proficiency. Particular attention is given to the cognitive and linguistic processes involved in understanding academic texts, as well as the challenges learners face during reading activities. The findings suggest that effective academic reading instruction improves students’ analytical abilities, independent learning skills, and capacity to interpret and evaluate information critically.
