Abstract

This article analyzes the ideological and artistic features of the works of Magtymguly Pyragy, one of the prominent representatives of Turkmen classical literature of the eighteenth century. Particular attention is paid to the poet’s life and creative development, as well as to his connection with the traditions of Eastern classical literature, especially the influence of the works of Ahmad Yasawi and Alisher Navoi on Magtymguly’s poetic thinking. The article examines the artistic representation of the Turkmen people’s national identity, unity and solidarity, patriotism, humanism, justice, generosity, and moral integrity in the poet’s works. Based on the poems “The Turkmen Structure” and “Justice Is Good”, the study explores Magtymguly’s aspiration to place the interests of the people and social well-being among the principal ideological and aesthetic values of his literary work. Particular attention is devoted to the Sufi motifs in Magtymguly’s poetry, his interpretation of divine love, and the human aspiration to comprehend the Creator through images and symbols drawn from nature. The article also highlights the significance of Magtymguly’s literary heritage in strengthening the literary and spiritual ties between the Uzbek and Turkmen peoples.
